Coronavirus: Kenya Confirms Six New Cases
The Ministry of Health, Kenya, on Sunday, April 12th, 2020 confirmed six new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of cases in the country to one hundred and ninety seven (197).
Cabinet Secretary for Health, Mutahi Kagwe, said that the figure was from seven hundred and sixty six (766) samples that have been tested by medical personnel in the past twenty four (24) hours.
Of the six new cases, five are males and one is a female. Five of them are Kenyan nationals while one is a foreign citizen,
Kagwe said in a statement issued in Nairobi.
He said that two of the cases have a travel history to the Middle East, while one patient recently travelled from Mombasa and three cases have no travel history.
Kagwe said that five of the cases were from mandatory quarantine centres, while one was picked up by the surveillance team.
The patients are aged between 25 and 59 years.
The official said one more case was discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recovered patients to twenty five (25).
Kagwe also said that one person from Siaya County in Western Kenya died of COVID-19, which now brings the total number of coronavirus to eight.
He said that the government is doing contact tracing for people who might have come in contact with the six persons, adding that a total of 2,160 contacts had been monitored, out of which 1,660 people had been discharged.
Kagwe said 500 contacts were being monitored at the moment, adding that Kenya had conducted a total of 7,449 tests, since the disease first hit the country.
Kenya has ordered lockdown in four counties, shut down all schools, and introduced a night curfew among other measures, aimed at curtailing the spread of coronavirus.
