Mikel set To Join Brazilian Club, Botafogo
Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, is about to sign with Brazilian club, Botafogo, with the deal that is likely to be concluded on Friday, April 3rd, 2020.
Mikel has been a free agent after his contract with Turkish club, Trabzonspor, was terminated in March, due to negative comments he made on Instagram that football matches shouldn’t be played during coronavirus outbreak.
According to reports on Yahoo Sports, the 32-year-old midfielder has been in negotiations with the Rio football club for a few days and there is optimism within the board that the Nigerian footballer could sign a deal soon.
Botafogo has already proposed officially and is waiting for Mikel’s response till Friday – today, and sources close to the player told Flavision that Mikel is in discussions about the deal with his long time manager, Olga Dyachenko.
Botafogo decided to go for Mikel, after they failed to sign former Ivory Coast international, Yaya Toure.
Mikel played in twenty seven (27) games for Trabzonspor this season, helping the club to the top of the league table.
