After several weeks of speculation, the Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has settled for a technocrat and seasoned expert on taxation, Sir Monday John Onyeme, as running mate to its 2023 gubernatorial candidate, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.

He is a 57-year old chartered accountant and has also obtained a Certificate in Information and Communication Technology, as well as a Master Degree in Business Management from the Northumbria University in Newcastle, United Kingdom.

Onyeme, who is currently the chairman, Delta State Board of Internal Revenue (DBIR), hails from Ibabu village in Ndokwa West Local Government Area in the Ndokwa ethnic nationality of Delta North senatorial district.

Onyeme, who also holds a traditional title, served for nine years as the bursar of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Flavision learnt that the party’s state leadership zoned the position to the oil and gas producing Ndokwa nation in Delta North senatorial district following the emergence of Oborevwori from Delta Central as the gubernatorial standard bearer.

The state PDP Chairman, Kingsley Esiso, described the Obirevwori-Onyeme governorship ticket as “a winning combination” for the party in 2023.

Also, the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Ifeanyi Osuoza, confirmed Onyeme as the party’s deputy governorship candidate and running mate to Oborevwori in a statement in issued in Asaba yesterday.

According to the statement,

Sir Monday John Onyeme, a Chartered Accountant par excellence, is a Fellow of different professional bodies such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), the Institute of Certified Forensic Investigation Professional Faculty (FCFIP), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), among others.

Above all, he is a loyal, dedicated and true party man, totally committed, well respected, and truly loved in the PDP family. He is also a devout Christian and a complete family man, happily married with children.

Sir Onyeme and our governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will pair on our joint ticket as standard bearers of the PDP for the 2023 Delta State governorship election.
