Ibrahim Babangida Efforts To Reconcile Nigerians After The Civil War Has Had Minimal Success
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida GCFR, the retired Nigerian Army General who was President of Nigeria from 27 August 1985 to 26 August 1993, said that all efforts to reconcile Nigerians after the devastating civil war has had minimal success.
In the interview with Channels Television, Babangida hailed some governmental initiatives, such as, the unity schools and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). However, he blamed the authorities by not consistently pushing for actualization of the reconciliation of Nigerians, for the limited success.
He said;
For example, the NYSC, unity schools.. I think we didn’t push it hard.
We should have pushed all those hard so that people from different parts of the country can say that we met at unity schools together.
