Sacked Lawmaker Returns National Assembly Property
Ex-member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulmunin Jibrin, has said that he has left his political future in God’s hands, but will still be involved in active politics.
After returning the property of the National Assembly in his possession to the clerk to the House of Representatives’ clerk, Jibrin told reporters that even though he was no longer a lawmaker, he would still be involved in the legislature’s activities.
Jibrin, whose election was nullified by the Appeal Court, lost his bid to be reelected to represent Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency of Kano State.
He said he was an advocate of everybody being involved in politics, adding that being in politics does not necessarily mean occupying an office.
He said
You can be a journalist supporting democracy. You can be someone who takes his vote very seriously and exercise it. You can be an advocate.
When asked about his next political move, the former lawmaker said that he would leave it to the Almighty God, adding
the future looks very bright. And one has had a very interesting career in the House in the last 10 years.
In these years, I’ve been a lawmaker holding two very sensitive positions in the House, chairing the Finance and Appropriations committees simultaneously. Spending 10 years without being accused of stealing money that belongs to the national assembly, without being associated with corruption and without being accused of being incompetent or lacking capacity. I think I have to thank God Almighty.
When asked if there is any plan for the government to compensate him, considering the crucial role he played in the emergence of the present House leadership, he replied that serving the public is about personal sacrifice.
I am not looking out for compensation but again, I am not tired of serving the country in any capacity either in my private capacity or when called upon again to provide services to the government.
