US Impeachment: Fani-Kayode Reacts As Senate Acquits Trump
Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has voiced out his take on the acquittal of the U.S. President, Donald John Trump by the country’s Senate.
On Wednesday, US Senators voted 52 – 48 in his favour and declared him not guilty of abuse of power.
Democratic lawmakers had earlier impeached him at the House of Representatives and wanted the Senate to remove him out of office.
Democrats had accused Trump of withholding U.S. military aid as pressure and demanding the Ukrainian President dig up dirt on his political rival, Joe Biden.
He was also accused of obstructing Congress’ investigation of the abuse of power.
However, the Democrats did not succeed in removing Trump from office, as the majority Republicans in the Senate have won the fight to keep their party in power.
Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, while reacting to the verdict, tweeted:
Guilty 48. Not Guilty 52.
@realDonaldTrump remains President of the United States and leader of the free world. Thanks be to God for honoring His word.
