Eight Persons Confirmed Dead, Six Injured In Tanker-Bus Collision In Anambra

Eight people have been killed and six injured in a sad road accident at Ukpo Junction along the Nteje-Awka Road in Anambra State, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command.

On Monday in Awka, the Sector Commander, Mrs. Joyce Alexander, gave reporters confirmation of the occurrence.

According to Alexander, a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number EKP375XM and a Mack tanker without a registration number were involved in the Sunday night collision.

According to Alexander, initial inquiries and eyewitness reports suggested that the bus was traveling from Abakaliki to Onitsha at the time of the collision.

Alexander was cited by the News Agency of Nigeria as stating, “The bus was speeding and overtook dangerously before colliding with the tanker, which was heading towards Awka on a single carriageway.”

Eight people—four men and four women—were killed in the head-on accident, while six others—two men and four women—were injured to varied degrees.

“After tending to the injured victims, the Nteje rescue squad took them to the hospital for medical attention. Following a doctor’s confirmation, they transported the deceased’s remains to Jerusalem Mortuary in Nteje,” Alexander continued.

The Sector Commander followed up with the survivors at Regina Caeli Hospital and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital in Awka to check on them and provide support.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of exercising caution when driving and asked people to refrain from speeding and careless overtaking.
