Police Rescue 24 Babies, Pregnant Teenagers In Rivers Baby Factory
On Tuesday, February 25th, 2020, officers of the Rivers State Police Command uncovered a baby factory in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and rescued twenty four (24) babies between the ages of one and two years, as well as four (4) pregnant teenagers.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura, who was represented by the police command’s spokesman, Nnandi Omoni, said on Wednesday, February 26th in Port Harcourt that the baby factory syndicate was exposed the previous day, following a covert operation by the Eagle Crack Unit of the police in the state.
The commissioner added that the babies, who during their rescue, appeared frail and malnourished, were currently receiving medical attention. Furthermore, he stated that police had commenced an investigation to identify the masterminds of the child trafficking syndicate.
He said, “The men of the Eagle Crack Unit, in a covert operation yesterday (Tuesday), around 3pm, burst a child trafficking syndicate at Woji in Port Harcourt, where 24 babies between the ages of one and two; and four pregnant teenagers were resued.
The babies and pregnant teenagers, who are frail and malnourished, are currently receiving medical attention at the police clinic, while investigation is still on with a view to making more recoveries and bringing the masterminds to justice.
The command is hereby appealing to the public, particularly residents of the state whose babies are missing to come forward for identification and collection.
