Nigerian Army Recruit Allegedly Killed By Lover Two Days Before Commencing Training

Patience Amos Ya’u

A man, Ali Muhammed Wakil, has been arrested in Damilu community in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State by police for murdering his 23-year-old girlfriend, Patience Amos Ya’u.

Patience, who was a recruit in the Nigerian Army, may have died around January 12, 2020, as the stench from her decomposing body attracted the attention of the suspect’s neighbours.

A neighbour who spoke to newsmen said the deceased whose co-recruits commenced training at the Military Training Depot in Zaria two days after her untimely death, had a heated argument with her lover before her demise. Afterwards, Wakil was reportedly going about his daily activities calmly, without attracting any suspicion, even though his longtime girlfriend’s corpse was decomposing in his room.

According to the neighbour,

Residents became suspicious when we did not see the woman for three days. What worried us more was the terrible odour from their room.
What compounded the situation was how the door of the room was locked from outside, a development that compelled people to forcefully open the window of the room, only to discover the body of the woman decomposing.

Amos Ya’u, Patience’s father recounted that his daughter left his house to plait her hair, but never returned. However, when called on the phone, Patience informed them that she would return the next day.

Strangely, Patience’s number was switched off, when they attempted to call her the next day after she didn’t return. Amos said he was informed of his daughter’s death four (4) days later by the police.

The Adamawa State Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed Wakil’s arrest and he went on to say that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had started interrogating the suspect.
