The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said that more than fifty (50) houses were damaged by the explosion that rocked Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State, near the Trade Fair Complex on the Lagos – Badagry Highway on Sunday, March 15th, 2020.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday, the Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident and the extent of destruction.
He told correspondents that the cause of the incident and casualty figure were still being verified, adding that:
rescue operations are still ongoing in the affected area.
Farinloye said the fire outbreak that resulted from the massive explosion later spilled over to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) oil pipeline that passed through the area. He noted that NNPC, on getting information about the explosion, shut down the pipeline, as a precautionary measure.
He went on to say that a combined team of the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire Service and the Nigerian Navy Fire Tender were currently battling to extinguish the inferno.
Recall that we reported that the massive explosion, which happened at about 9.00 a.m. on Sunday, March 15th, 2020 caused panic among Lagos residents after it rocked numerous buildings in Ijegun, Festac Town and other communities in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area up to Agege.
