Road Accident Claims 17 Lives In Niger

Niger State

Seventeen people have been confirmed dead and several others injured in a ghastly motor accident that occurred during the weekend at Edozhigi town of Lavun Local Government along Bida-Mokwa Road in Niger State.

The accident, which occurred at about 2.00 p.m. involved two trailers that ran into each other.

Villagers at Edozhigi were said to have struggled to rescue many of the passengers in one of the trailers but the 17 persons died before help could reach them.

The Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Musa Mohammed, confirmed the incident in Minna yesterday.

Mohammed attributed the cause of the accident to over speeding and added that

one of the trailers was coming from Lagos.

He advised motorists to be more careful and avoid over speeding on the road.

It would be recalled that a similar accident that occurred last year at almost the same spot led to the loss of 52 lives.
