Federal Government Of Nigeria Slashes Visa Fees For U.S Citizens
A review of the United States’ visa reciprocity policy for Nigeria has prompted the Federal Government to lower visa application fees for U.S. citizens.
While confirming the latest development, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Muhammad Babandede, stated that the visa application fees for U.S. citizens was lowered from $180.00 to $160.00.
The fact was transmitted in a memo marked NIS/HQ/CGI/806/7 and subsequently addressed to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Henceforth, all Nigerian embassies were instructed to immediately carry out the new directive and discontinue the old visa fee. When broken down, it becomes U.S. $160.00 as visa fee and U.S. $20.00 as processing and expedient fees.
However, the new directive came months after the U.S. Government imposed additional visa fees on Nigerian citizens as a retaliatory action of an increased visa fee by the Nigerian Government for U.S. citizens.
