Air Force Kills Boko Haram Insurgents In Gana, Damboa
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Thursday, March 5th, released a statement that its Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole have destroyed some logistics facilities belonging to Boko Haram insurgents at Bakari Gana on the edges of the Sambisa Forest in Borno State on Wednesday, March 4th. The NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, stated that the airstrikes were done as a mission marking the beginning of a new air interdiction operation called “Operation Decisive Edge”.
He said the “Operation Decisive Edge” was designed to specifically target known hideouts of terrorists that were otherwise inaccessible to ground forces, because of the terrain, as well as the fact that Boko Haram terrorists heavily mined every approach to the locations. He said the attack was conducted after various Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions confirmed that the insurgents were stashing their fuel and other logistics in some huts within Bakari Gana.
According to him, fighter jets were detailed by the ATF to engage the location in two waves of attack, scoring devastating hits in the target area that led to the fuel storage facilities being destroyed and engulfed in flames.
He added that some of the insurgents were also killed in the process of destroying their facilities.
