Electric Pole, Wire Fall On Vehicle In Lagos

Electric pole

A yet-to-be-identified driver escaped death by a whisker on Wednesday when an electric pole and wire belonging to the Ikeja Electric fell on his vehicle on Igbasan Street in the Opebi area of Lagos State.

Flavision gathered from residents, who were shocked by the incident, that there was power supply when the pole fell on the vehicle.

The fear of electrocution was said to have prevented residents from moving closer to the scene of the incident as they observed the situation from a safe distance.

In the footage of the incident, which was posted on Instablog9ja, a resident was heard lamenting the situation thus,

This thing just happened; a pole just fell on a vehicle; disastrous; and there is light.

Some residents of the area were seen watching as the pole rested on the vehicle with the wires also falling around it.

The driver’s side door was left wide open, which might be an indication that the motorist abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the IE, Felix Ofulue, said there was no loss of life, adding that a team had been dispatched to the area to save the situation and investigate the cause of the incident.

He stated,

We are aware of the incident and our guys are there already. There is no casualty and we have cut off power supply to the area; our men are working on erecting a new pole.

We are investigating to ascertain the cause of the incident. From what I saw, it is a concrete pole; so, we are investigating to know what went wrong.
