Lassa Fever: Dr. Nma Halliday, MD, Says Early Diagnosis And Treatment Increase Chances Of Survival
A medical doctor, writer, health educator and advocate, Dr. Nma Halliday, MD, has said in the early hours of today, Saturday, January 25, 2020, that early diagnosis and treatment of Lassa fever can increase the chances of survival.
Dr. Halliday gave the educated insight via her Twitter handle, @dazHalle, as confirmed cases of the deadly Lassa fever keep growing everyday.
Dr. Halliday further explained that there are health tips that we, as ordinary people can adhere to, in order to prevent against infection, as well as to detect early warning signs of the Lassa fever.
She stated Lassa fever preventive measures as follows:
- Clean your environment clean at all times, block all holes in your house to prevent entry of rats.
- Cover your dustbins and dispose refuse properly.
- Trapping and killing rodents with proper and safe disposal of carcasses. Don’t touch it with your bare hands
- Avoid rodents as a food source
- Avoid bush burning.
- Avoid drying foodstuff outside on the floor, roadside where it will be exposed to contamination.

- Fatigue
- General weakness
- Fever
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Vomitting
- Diarrhoea
- Face swelling
- Low blood pressure
- Nose bleeding
