North-West Govs Shut Schools Over Coronavirus Fears
Following the first suspected case of Coronavirus in Katsina State, North-West Governors on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020 announced the closure of all schools in the zone.
The governors, after holding a closed-door meeting in Kaduna, said the closure of schools would last for thirty (30) days, noting that it had become necessary, in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the zone.
The Chairman of the forum and Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, read the communique shortly after the closed-door meeting.
The governor said the schools’ closure would take effect from Monday, March 23rd, 2020.
According to Masari, the North-West Governors would meet with examination boards to discuss the schools’ closure.
They governors equally urged the public to avoid unnecessary gatherings, admonishing them as well to maintain good respiratory hygiene.
Present at the meeting were the governors of Niger, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara and Jigawa States, while Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State was represented by his deputy, Nasiru Gawuna.
