COVID-19

An Indian contractor who displayed symptoms of Coronavirus has been identified and picked up at the Dangote Refinery, Lagos for proper testing, diagnosis and possible treatment.

According to the Punch Newspaper, the foreigner, who is an employee of one of Dangote’s contractors, was running a high temperature and coughing on Monday, March 16th, 2020.

Doctors were promptly detailed to rush the suspect to a hospital for testing and diagnosis.

Dangote firm’s spokesman, Tony Chiejina, confirmed the incident but pointed out that the suspect was not a Dangote’s staff.

He said the person was fingered during one of the routine medical checks at the refinery, adding that the case was yet to be confirmed.

Chiejina told journalists that the Dangote Group was a strong partner in the Nigeria’s battle against COVID-19, adding that the holding company had even donated N200m to eradicate the coronavirus pandemic.

He assured Nigerians that a statement would be issued soon regarding the result of the suspect’s test and called on everyone to remain calm.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made a statement on its official Twitter handle that it was already investigating the matter.
