Ethiopia Confirms First Case Of Coronavirus
Ethiopia on Friday, March 13th, 2020 announced that it had recorded its first case of the coronavirus, the second case in East Africa, which had been spared from the rapidly-spreading disease.
Ethiopia’s health ministry said that a 48-year-old Japanese man who had entered the country on March 4th, 2020 from Burkina Faso was confirmed to be its index case.
The health ministry said in a statement:
He is undergoing medical follow-up and is in a stable condition. Those who have been in contact with this person are being traced and quarantined.
Ethiopia has become the 15th African country with a confirmed case of the coronavirus pandemic.
