Lagos State Government Pulls Down Fela’s Statue At Allen Avenue
The monument of Fela Kuti, the Afrobeat king, was pulled by the Lagos State Government, just two years after the former governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, commissioned it at Allen Avenue in Ikeja.
The incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu via his spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile confirmed that the statue has been felled. He said that the roundabout where the statue was located among the four roundabouts currently identified by the government as the major cause of traffic jam in the state.
The governor cited the other roundabouts that cause traffic jam in Lagos, in Lekki-Epe expressway, Maryland, and Ikotun. According to the spokesperson, the government has plans to relocate the artwork to a permanent place where it won’t cause gridlock again.
