The Federal House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 10th, 2020 resolved to intervene in the ongoing two-week warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). The Minister of Education, and Minister of Labour and Productivity were invited by the Reps regarding the issue.
This move was as a result of a motion filed by Dachung Bagos (PDP, Plateau), who noted emphasized that the warning strike action would give rise to numerous academic issues to university students, as well cause as embarrassment to the country.
Bagos said,
It’s a wrong signal to the world.
He regretted that the situation of public universities in the country is worrisome, considering the fact that many of them don not have enabling environments for conducive learning to thrive.
He urged the house to invite ASSU for a discussion, in order to understand their version of the story, so as to resolve the matter at hand.
