UNICEF Io Empower 9,000 Vulnerable Children In Katsina

No fewer than 9,000 vulnerable children in Katsina State are to benefit from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) cash transfer in order to enhance and sustain their educational programmes.

The vulnerable children, who are to be selected across communities in Kafur, Mani and Safana Local Government Areas of the state, are to receive the cash under the UNICEF’s Educate A Child (EAC) project.

The UNICEF Education Specialist, Kano Field Office, Muhammad Muntaqa, disclosed this during a consultation meeting on Girl’s Education Project (GEP 3) and EAC extension with the Katsina State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Badamasi Lawal Charanchi, and other directors of the ministry.

He said:

We are going to conduct a household mapping and listen to out-of-school children and undertake community mobilisation, through enrolment drive and welcome to school campaign.

Provision of cash transfer as a form of social protection, where 9,000 beneficiaries from Kafur, Safana and Mani Local Government Areas will emerge.

The second outcome is to increase the supply of quality education, through continuing professional development of teachers.

Under this, we have strengthened the quality of teaching and facilitation in public schools and integrated Qur’anic schools, and also provided teaching and learning materials.

According to Muntaqa,

Also, strengthening the capacity of the school and centred base management committee and the continuity of learning, through distant learning and community learning hubs.

Responding, the Commissioner for Education, Charanchi, applauded UNICEF for supporting the educational drive of Governor Aminu Bello Masari in the state.

The commissioner reiterated the state government’s readiness to continue to partner with the organisation for the improvement of the education sector, particularly the girl-child education.
