Man Kills Son, Daughter, Injures Father In Anambra
A 34-year-old man, Ifeanyi Apusiobi, on Sunday, allegedly killed his daughter and son in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He was also alleged to have inflicted injuries on his father before neighbours rescued the 72-year-old man.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Ifeanyi went berserk early in the morning and attacked his children and killed them in their sleep.
I can’t just say what happened to him. Maybe he took something that made him to run amok. I can’t just say. It’s painful,
the resident stated.
The Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
He said the incident happened around 1am.
Mohammed explained that the man killed the children, Chinecherem and Obinna, with a pestle, while they were asleep, adding that he also injured his aged father in the head.
He said the children were seven and five years old, respectively.
Mohammed stated,
Around 1am on Sunday, police personnel attached to the Ogbunike Police Station arrested one Ifeanyi Apusiobi, 34, of Azu Ogbunike in the Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The suspect allegedly ran amok in circumstances yet to be ascertained and attacked two of his children namely, Chinecherem Apusiobi (daughter), aged seven, and Obinna Apusiobi (son), aged five, with a wooden pestle on their heads while they were sleeping.
The suspect equally used the same object to injure his father, one Dominic Apusiobi, 72, in his head.
The PPRO said police detectives visited the scene and rushed the victims to hospital for medical attention, where the children were pronounced dead by a medical doctor, while Dominic was responding to treatment.
The corpses were deposited in the Isienyi Hospital morgue for autopsy. The exhibit has been recovered and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for discreet investigation,
he added.
