Suspected Herdsmen Kidnap Anglican Priest In Delta
An Anglican priest, Revd. Anthony Oyi, has been reportedly abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen on his farm at Issele-Mkpitime, Aniocha North Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State.
Flavision learnt that the priest, who is a native of Issele-Mkpitime, went to the farm in the morning with his family, where they were all kidnapped on Saturday, April 18th, 2020.
The reverend’s wife, children and another male companion were also reported to have been kidnapped.
However, the kidnappers set the wife and children free after three hours, instructing her to go and gather money to pay ransom for her husband’s freedom.
Flavision gathered that a vigilante group in Issele-Uku and Issele-Mkpitime were subsequently notified and they dispatched a search party into the bush, in an attempt to rescue the victims.
The Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, adding that police operatives had started gathering intelligence and combing the bush to rescue them.
He stated,
Yes, the command has been alerted and we immediately sent officers to comb the bush. Our men are already in the bush to rescue the victims.
