Rival cults clash

At least three persons have lost their lives in Bayelsa State following a cult war involving two rival cult groups named Icelanders and Bobos.

It was gathered that five persons also sustained injuries in the incident, which happened on Monday around the Green Villa and Customs roads in Biogbolo suburb of Yenagoa.

A 50-year-old landlord, Niceman Agonoebi, said to be an in-law to a former deputy governor of the state, Peremobowei Ebebi, was among those killed in the clash.

Also, a female restaurant operator, identified as Madam Odey in the area, was said to have had her jaw torn apart by the stray bullet of the cultists, while two others received fatal gunshot wounds.

Flavision gathered that the gunmen arrived at Customs Road in a commercial tricycle around 8pm and opened fire on their target, who was in the midst of people at a pub.

Men of the state police command and some members of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service were said to have stormed the scene and chased the gunmen, who reportedly escaped through the Edepie/Tombia end of the capital city.

The spokesman for the police command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the perpetrators would be arrested and prosecuted.
