Police Rescue 13 Kidnap Victims In Enugu
Enugu Police Command said that its operatives had rescued thirteen (13) people who were being driven by a kidnapping gang to an unknown location in the early hours of Saturday, March 7th, 2020. They were being transported in a Toyota Hiace bus, when the police operatives intervened.
The state’s police spokesman, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdurrahman, upon receiving intelligence on the kidnapping-in-progress, promptly sent a team of officers of the “Operation Puff Adder” who trailed the gang with their victims in the Toyota Hiace bus with Reg. No. MSA657XA.
After setting their sight on the police along the Enugu-Markurdi Highway, the kidnappers reportedly diverted to Akomagbo Ugbaike community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area (L.G.A.).
But police traced them and found in their hideout, in the home of one Chidi Ogbonna (aka Egbe) within Akomagbo Ubgaike, where the victims were held hostage. The police spokesman said that the abductors fled, while the operatives arrested their female gang member named Onyeke Gloria Nwanezi, and rescued their thirteen (13) victims.
The policemen also recovered one toy pistol, one locally-manufactured pistol with two (2) live cartridges, two motorcycles and one Toyota Hiace bus.
A manhunt was ordered by the commissioner to arrest the fleeing members of the gang. He appealed to law-abiding citizens of the state, particularly community leaders, to expose criminals instead harbouring them. He further warned that the police would not hesitate to apprehend and charge anyone found encouraging criminals to court.
