Coronavirus Kills Kano Doctor, 33 Infected
The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association has said a medical doctor (its member) in the state has died of coronavirus disease, while thirty three (33) others have also been infected with the deadly virus.
The NMA chairman in the state, Dr. Sanusi Bala, disclosed this in Kano during an interview with the Punch Newspaper, on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020.
However, he said the affected thirty three (33) medical doctors who are currently receiving medical attention were getting better and would be discharged from hospital.
Bala said they had resolved that their members would not risk their lives, if Personal Protective Equipment were not provided for them.
The NMA chief said,
The doctors were infected while on duty and attending to patients with symptoms of the coronavirus.
According to him, they are still compiling the list of affected doctors.
Bala,
Yes, we have developed a feedback mechanism system whereby we access each facility, and report what we have seen to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.
But what we all agreed is that, all doctors if they don’t have PPEs, they shouldn’t risk their lives.
