Botafogo Offer Mikel $2m 18-Month Contract

Mikel Obi

Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has been offered to join Brazilian Serie A club, Botafogo, on an 18-month contract.

Flavision gathered that Botafogo has continued to pursue the signing of the former Chelsea midfielder.

Recall that his contract was mutually terminated by his former Turkish club, Trabzonspor, following a complaint Mikel made on social media regarding the safety of players while playing the Turkish Super Lig matches amid COVID-19 pandemic.

ESPN journalist, Jorge Nicola, reported that Mikel has been offered an 18-month deal by Botafogo, that would see him earn $2m over the duration of the contract.

If the new deal goes through, Mikel will earn more than the $1.6m he received at Trabzonspor.

Botafogo is aiming to bounce back to greatness in Brazilian football and they just concluded the signing of Japanese player, Keisuke Honda.
