Edo Court Remands Nanny For Sexually Assaulting Two-Year-Old Girl
An Evbuoriaria Chief Magistrate court in Benin, the Edo State capital, on Monday, March 16th, 2020 ordered that 43-year-old nanny, Esther Ehikhioya, be remanded in prison for sexually assaulting a two-year-old girl.
Ehikhioya was accused of defiling a minor by inserting her finger into her vagina.
Ehikhioya, who was a nanny with the Catholic Intercessory Academy, Sapele Road, Benin City, allegedly committed the crime on Monday, February 3rd, 2020.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Peter Ogbe, in the charge sheet number MEV/61c/c/202, told the court that Ehikhioya after inserting her finger into the victim’s vagina, broke the little girl’s hymen, which was against the law.
The count two also accused the defendant of unlawfully having carnal knowledge of the same victim, without her consent.
A medical report from the Police Cottage Hospital, Police Clinic, Benin, was called by the prosecutor and he confirmed that the victim’s hymen was not intact after medical examinations were conducted at the hospital.
The victim, who was brought to the medical facility on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020, was examined by Dr. Efosa Osagie, the Medical Officer of Police Cottage Hospital.
Efosa said,
On examination, I found a young child of pre-school age hymen not intact, no abrasion, nil bruises and nil redness around the vaginal area or anus.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges, but Chief Magistrate, Dorothy Adamaigbo, ordered her to be remanded in prison until Thursday, March 26th, when hearing would commence.
