Ebonyi Teenager Defiles Five Minors In One Week

Behind bars

An Ebonyi State Magistrates’ Court in Abakaliki has remanded an 18-year-old boy identified as Nwafor Jacob in a correctional centre on Friday, March 13th, 2020 for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old minor.

It was alleged that the suspect was also alleged to have serially had carnal knowledge of four other minors.

Flavision learnt that three out of his five victims were siblings and that the suspect defiled them between January 19th, 2020 and January 25th, 2020.

The prosecuting counsel, Sergeant Sebastine Alumona, told the court that the suspect had a habit of jumping on the victims while they were asleep, to defile them.

He was charged on one count of unlawful sexual intercourse.

The charge read,

That you, Nwafor Jacob, on January 25, 2020, at Onunwafor village, Umuoghara, Ezza North Local Government Area, in the Abakaliki Magisterial District, did have unlawful sexual intercourse with a 10-year-old girl and four other minors, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 34 (2) of the Ebonyi State Child Right Law and Related Matters, 2010.

The defendant’s counsel Mr. G. N. Ota, applied to the court for his client to be granted bail.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Nnenna Onuoha, said the court lacked the jurisdiction to adjudicate on the issue.

She ruled that the defendant be remanded in the Abakaliki Correctional Centre, while his case file should be transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for necessary legal advice.

The magistrate adjourned the case till March 27th, 2020.
