Coronavirus: Lagos Monitoring 349 People From Endemic Countries
The Lagos State Government announced on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 that it was monitoring 349 people in the state for signs coronavirus disease.
Those people that are being monitored arrived from countries where the coronavirus disease is prevalent, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, tweeted on Saturday.
However, he conceded that Lagos State has not recorded any confirmed case, apart from the index patient from Italy who is currently isolated in Yaba.
One confirmed case identified. 50 new samples collected for analysis,
he said.
He added,
349 Persons of interest from endemic countries under follow up.
He clarified the efforts the state government was making to keep people informed on the deadly virus.
He also outlined the challenges the government were facing in tackling the task at hand.
Those include:
incorrect phone numbers of some contacts, language barrier in speaking with some contacts.
Some contacts are with foreign numbers which are not accessible.
Traffic gridlock
Personnel for response activities especially for Epidemiology/Surveillance.
The commissioner further said that the government was in the process of training stakeholders and creating awareness on COVID-19.
