Court Remands Tiler For Allegedly Defiling 9-Year-Old Girl
A high court in Kubwa, Abuja on Wednesday, March 4th, 2020 ordered that a 44-year-old tiler, Anthony Onuchukwu, who was accused of defiling a nine-year-old girl, be remanded in a custodial centre.
The case was adjourned until May 18, 19, 20 and 21 by Justice Kezziah Ogbonnaya for hearing. Ogbonnaya, in her ruling on a verbal bail application for the defendant, ordered the defence counsel, Elom Aneke, to present a formal bail application, in order for the court to consider it.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Adama Musa told the court that the defendant committed a statutory rape against a nine-year-old girl at Tunga Wakili, Dei-dei, Abuja on November 19th, 2019.
He said the defendant, a father of four children, had threatened to kill the girl, if she told anybody about the defilement, adding that the offence contravened Sect. 31 (1) of the Child Rights Act.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant pleaded not guilty to the alleged charges.
