Air Force Kill Terrorists, Destroy Their Facilities In Sambisa Forest
Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole has killed some Boko Haram fighters and destroyed some of their facilities in air strikes conducted on Thursday, February 27th, 2020.
The air strikes targeted a location known in the military circle as the “S” Region in the heart of the Sambisa Forest, Borno State.
The Nigerian Air force spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said in a statement that the air strikes were executed as a continuation of the Operation Rattle Snake 3, after analyzing data gathered via a series of Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions.
He said the reconnaissance missions showed that the terrorists, with their logistics facilities, vehicles and motorcycles camouflaged under the dense forest vegetation, had intensified activities in the “S” Region with a view to launching further attacks on troops’ locations and civilian settlements in the area.
He said, the task force therefore detailed its helicopter gunships and fighter jets to attack the location, scoring crucial hits that led to the killing of some Boko Haram terrorists, as well as the destruction of some of their structures.
He said, the Nigerian Air Force, operating in collaboration with surface forces, will dish out its sustained air campaign to shape the battlespace in the Northeast for the effective conduct of further ground and air operations.
